Dreams by Janice was founded in 2007 by Janice Hambelton and Kelly Miller. In 2006 Janice decided she wanted to return to some of her passions and dreams as a young girl, and painting was one of them. This “mother and daughter” team decided to enter into a partnership and formalize the business. Dreams by Janice is the local art studio in the Old Town and surrounding communities and it offers everyone an opportunity to experience, imagine, and create through various art forms.
A mother of four, the daughter of an artist, and a great adventurer, Janice Hambelton is living her dreams. Janice was born in Michigan and inherited her love for art from her mother. She began painting at the age of 16. After moving to Maine in 1989, Janice took a hiatus from painting to raise her children. Although she initially worked in acrylics and oil paints, when she re-kindled her art career in 2003 she changed her medium to watercolors.
Nowadays you will find Janice teaching others how to have fun and find expression through painting, interior design, and other creative arts. Janice also enjoys touring and being inspired by old homes and historical mansions all over the United States.
When Janice, Kelly’s mother, decided to start a business in the arts, Kelly knew that Janice’s strong passion and unique abilities were going to result in something big. While Kelly is not an artist, she certainly enjoys fine art and has many of Janice’s pieces hanging in her home. Kelly provides strategic leadership in all business operations of the company.
In addition to supporting Dreams by Janice, Kelly works in international development in the Washington, DC area. Kelly loves to travel internationally and has visited every continent except for Antarctica.
Sherry loves doing crafts. If she’s not working, shes scrolling on Pinterest to find a cute new project to do with her kids. Originally from West Bridgewater, Massachusetts, she moved to Maine to seek out a quiet place to raise her kids. Sherry is the mother of four children. Sherry loves cooking, doing arts and crafts, and really enjoys the great working environment at the Art Studio. She’s also a hardcore Patriots fan year round.
When she’s not working, Sherry enjoys being at home and having family time with her kids.
Jim has been interested in the arts for as long as he can remember. From sewing to painting, there is nothing he cannot get creative with. Jim has a Bachelor’s degree in Art and a Master’s degree in Costume Design. In the past, Jim has held teaching jobs and worked as a professional costume designer for theaters. His favorite mediums to work in are fiber arts and acrylics, although he will work with anything he can get his hands on. One of his favorite things about working at Dreams by Janice is being able to interact with the students and encourage them to tap into their creative side. His favorite color is orange.
When he’s not in the studio, Jim works on personal art pieces, sings, and is always looking for inspiration on Pinterest.
Nichole has always been involved in the arts since she could first hold a paintbrush. Her favorite art mediums are acrylics and digital painting. Her love for art pushed her to study graphic design and create animations. One thing she loves about her job is how it’s helped her to grow as a designer.
Outside of the studio, Nichole continues her broadcasting dream as a producer at WABI-TV 5. She also loves black cats and has one named Noodle.
